Mr Willie Yeo, a prostate cancer survivor, is a beneficiary of Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) since 2015. SCS has been assisting Mr Yeo under the Welfare Aid Fund, by providing him with adult diapers that he requires to manage his condition.

Many years back, My Yeo went to see a Doctor when he realised that he had difficulty in urination and lumps felt in the prostate area. He was then diagnosed with prostate cancer. Since he was diagnosed at an early stage, he only had to go for radiotherapy and followed by hormone therapy treatment.

Due to his other health conditions, he had to undergo a leg surgery and became wheelchair bound. He had to stop his work as a salesman. The divorcee now lives alone in a one room flat and sells tissue papers to make his ends meet.

In the advanced stages of cancer, patients may choose to receive care and support in their homes to maximise their quality of life for as long as possible. Many patients prefer to spend their final days with their loved ones in the comfort of their own homes. The SCS Hospice Care team applies a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure that both patients’ and their family members’ needs are appropriately assessed and addressed.
